We are pleased to introduce Dr. Aaron Hesla, one of our team members at Doig Optometry, who has been serving the Calgary area since 2006. Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Dr. Hesla earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Lethbridge and his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada.
Dr. Hesla’s Credentials and Experience
Dr. Hesla brings impressive credentials and expertise to our practice. He excels in pediatric and senior vision care, ensuring that patients of all ages receive the attention and treatment they need. His proficiency in myopia control helps manage and slow the progression of nearsightedness, which is particularly important for young patients. Dr. Hesla is also skilled in dry eye therapy, offering solutions to alleviate discomfort and improve eye health, which is important for Calgarians.
In ocular diseases, Dr. Hesla is experienced in glaucoma management, providing ongoing care to monitor and treat this condition effectively. He is skilled in fitting multifocal contact lenses, which offer a convenient solution for those needing vision correction for both near and far distances. Dr. Hesla has a special interest in sports vision therapy, assisting athletes in enhancing their visual skills to improve overall performance.

Experience and Training
Dr. Hesla completed an externship at St. Erik’s Ögonsjukhus in Stockholm, Sweden, working with leading retinal and ocular diseases experts. He also participated in an eye care mission in Tanzania, Africa, to provide quality eye care to underserved communities. These experiences have enriched his knowledge of managing ocular diseases such as glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.
Personal Interests
Outside of work, Dr. Hesla enjoys traveling and learning about different cultures. He is also passionate about hockey, coaching his two sons in minor hockey, and has completed his Coach, Level 2 Certificate. His interest in sports extends to his professional practice, where he helps athletes improve their performance through sports vision therapy.
