Shooting, Archery, and Hunting Eyewear. You’d be surprised by how many hunters are hit annually by an errant birdshot, a ricochet, or even just a spent shell. Shooting eyewear is made with shatterproof materials the same way the front windshield of a vehicle is. This protects your eyes, and possibly your life, from projectiles coming towards your face.
However, more mundane accidents can also happen. Excessive powder can blow back and burn your unprotected face and eyes. Stray branches, leaves, dust, or insects can fly into your eye if you’re spending hours deep in the bush. But beyond protection, shooting eyewear may just make you a better marksperson. Many hunters swear that specific shades of tinted glass improve their accuracy and provide better contrast as they shoot.
Decot Hy-Wyd Glasses are one of our prefered brands of sport glasses at Doig Optometry. They are available in prescription and non-prescription, distance and bifocal. Decot Hy-Wyd glasses are handmade in the US, so you know that you’re getting a high quality product that isn’t compromised by poor materials or craftsmanship. Decot Hy-Wyd is also generally accepted to have created some of the very first eyewear made especially for hunters. We enjoy working with a brand that has decades of experience in their specialty and that is always striving to improve their product.
The frames are built to fit snug to the head and are set behind the lenses which reduces fogging and helps to keep the glasses held in place no matter how much you move around. The bridge between the lenses is kept small, and each lens is large and set high to allow for the widest field of vision possible. The optional hy-lo bridge can also be manually raised or lowered to keep the optical center of the lenses exactly where you need it for all types of shooting.
Their non-Rx lenses come standard in a shatterproof polycarbonate, while their Rx lenses offer CR-39 impact resistance, meeting the impact resistance standards set in FDA 21 CFR 801.410. Another feature we liked is that Decot Hy-wyd lenses are interchangeable. You can easily pop the lens out of the frame and put a different lens into the frame as you want. This can be convenient if you prefer different coloured lenses at different times of day or in different terrain.
At Doig Optometry, we know that many Albertans enjoy hunting and shooting. That’s why we want to help make the sport as safe as possible for everyone. The right eyewear that can protect eyes from damage and even improve accuracy and contrast is the place to start!
